While PNG Government Ministers from the Sepik area are behind the Chinese Freida mine push, there is good number of Sepiks and Papua New Guineans who reckon the negative impacts of the proposed mine are enormous and project development planning is not considered enough to safeguard the indigenous.
One of those people anonymously (with pen name, Sepik Voice) posted on Facebook group, Sepik Development Forum, says while everyone has their say on the latest news about the three Sepik MPs and Minsters who are in support of the opening and operation of Freida Mine, let me say something here too.
“I wasn't agreeing in the way local politicians are doing right now, either for the fame and name. The Yangoru Saussia MP and National Planning Minister Hon. Richard Maru must not use his power to push for something that will have a big negative impact on the lives of the people in the years to come,” the nameless post said.
“Maru being from Yangoru which has land does not know how the people living along the Sepik River use it for their survival. Being leaders, I wonder who did they care for? Is it the people or the money?” the post asked.
“Sepik River people must now rise up and write a petition to show your stand in the project. Never let foolish leaders who are selfish come along for their own gain to suppress you in any decision that will have a bad impact in your lives in the years to come,” the Sepik voice posted on the Facebook. – Via Garamut News.
